Mimizan Plage boasts almost 10 km of beaches on either side of an arm of water known as the “Courant de Mimizan”. This current is the natural outlet for a freshwater lake, Lac d’Aureilhan.

Whether you’re abeginner or an experienced surfer, there’s a wave for everyone at Mimizan. The supervised zones near the town center welcome novices in complete safety, while experts can set off to discover the wilder , secret spots. The quality of our beach breaks, characteristic of the Aquitaine coast, attracts surfers from all over the world.

From morning hits to sunset sessions

At dawn, Mimizan reveals its treasures to surfers. The easterly winds, blowing from the Landes forest towards the ocean, sculpt exceptional waves. These“offshore” conditions create smooth faces and perfect lips, offering early-morning surfers the ideal playground for tubes and committed maneuvers.

The surfer ‘s patience is rewarded at sunset, when the magic happens again. The sea breeze calms, and theocean is transformed into a mirror of golden reflections. The waves regain their perfect shape, promising unique sessions where technique and contemplation mingle.

This signature alternation of the Aquitaine coastline makes Mimizan a precious spot, offering two daily windows of surfing in optimal conditions during the summer season.

Mimizan’s surf schools are certified and supervised by state-qualified instructors who are passionate about surfing, and will help you progress all season long. From beginners to advanced, courses are available for all levels and ages. Children as young as 8 can discover the joys of surfing in safe, fun courses, while adults can opt for private or group lessons.

Everything is designed for your comfort: quality wetsuits, boards adapted to your level, and safe practice areas. Formulas are flexible, from 1h30 discovery lessons to 5-day intensive courses for rapid progress. A la carte equipment rental for independent surfers who want to ride freely.

Instructors share their favorite spots and advice on tides, winds and the best times to surf. They also pass on the fundamentals of surf culture: respect for the ocean, wave reading and safety rules.

Beyond the supervised beaches, Mimizan hides its finest surfing nuggets. These confidential spots, scattered along 10 kilometers of wild coastline, offer magical sessions far from the crowds. Head for the north or south of the current, where the sandbanks draw perfect peaks that only motivated surfers, ready to walk, will be able to discover.

These hidden treasures, between Lespecier and Remember, reveal more powerful and less crowded waves. Hollow lefts or endless straights, each spot has its own unique character. A word of advice: make sure you’re equipped and know the conditions before setting out on your adventure on these isolated spots.
