The flower walk

The Promenade Fleurie, the pride and joy of Mimizan, is a must-see for all visitors to Mimizan. This natural site on the south-western shore of Lac d’Aureilhan – Mimizan will delight the eyes of young and old alike, with over 400 species of flowers blooming throughout the seasons.

Contemplating Flower Island

The Promenade fleurie, also known as the Ile aux fleurs, was created in 1966 on the initiative of the mayor at the time, Monsieur Dugrand, who was passionate about the plant world and wanted to offer residents a pleasant place to stroll.

The garden is divided into two distinct, complementary environments: a sunny section running alongside the lace, and a shady lower section featuring wetland vegetation.

The plants to be seen are adapted to the environment and are a gentle blend of ornamental and garden plants (multiple varieties of hydrangea, dalhia, etc.) and endemic plants (fern, water lily, iris).

The quality of the landscaping and the diversity of the flowers have contributed to the garden’s being awarded 4th flower in the “Towns and Villages in Bloom” competition for the 1st time in 1995, a ranking it has maintained for almost 30 years.

Every year in summer, guided tours of the Promenade are organized and commented by an agent from the town’s environmental department. Similarly, open-air concerts are offered on certain Sundays in July and August; dates can be found in thediary.
