Aureilhan

The entire village faces the Lac d’Aureilhan-Mimizan. With a surface area of 340 ha, this listed site offers an exceptional natural setting for relaxation and leisure activities… The village also boasts a well-restored heritage, and its history has been marked by the regular visits of the Duke of Westminster…

A lakeside village

Hiking, cycling, geocaching, fishing or boatingare just some of the activities on offer all year round. From the 1st days of spring, new distractions await you: paddle, paddle yoga, kayaking, pedal boats and, in summer, swimming (supervised in July and August).

In terms of architecture, don’t miss the 12th-13th century church and its porch, which have been completely renovated, and the miraculous Sainte Ruffine fountain, with its wooden statue of the saint, reputed to cure skin diseases. Opposite the church, the “Bergerie” (sheepfold), typical ofLandes architecture with its timber frame and garluche stone base, hosts seasonal events. This building, once located on the moor, provided shelter for the herd when they were on the move.

Another witness to local history is the boarding pontoon built by the Duke of Westminster in 1910 to access his Château de Woolsack, which still stands on the other side of the lake from Mimizan.

Another tribute is paid to the Duke of Westminster, as Aureilhan’s village hall has been named “Loelia” after the third duchess.
