Kiff Atlantique at Mimizan in the Landes region this spring

Abeach dayfor everyone! At Mimizan, we like to mix between breaks with our feet in the sand and more energetic activities. That’s our definition of balance: a little sport, a lot of chill, always fun!

The plage to Be Pines, beach and disc golf straight ahead

In the mild morning, we choose Plage Remember – the northernmost beach of the Mimizan resort – as our HQ for the day. A large sandy beach located at the mouth of the ocean and the coastal river, bordered by vegetated dunes. Unfolded towel, novel nearby, breathtaking panorama… First, we take our time to enjoy the calm atmosphere facing the ocean, watching the waves breaking. The beach is wide, and we won’t get in anyone’s way by starting a game of molki: just aim and keep score, while the surfers aim for the best waves. Lunchtime is approaching, and so is team time: will it be an ocean view or a cosy spot in the forest? Either way, the picnic is invigorating, and the sea spray and pine ions regenerating! The afternoon program begins with an introduction to disc golf: a derivative of golf, the ball is replaced by a flying disc (Frisbee). The aim is to aim at a basket marking the “hole” and complete the course in as few throws as possible. Take advantage of the warm welcome and expert advice offered by the members of the Forty Pignes club: you just might develop a taste for this still confidential sport! When the game’s over, hop on your bike and head back to the heart of the resort, where you’ll be tempted by a little raspberry-chocolate ice cream. Enjoy it overlooking the ocean and tell yourself that, really, such a beautiful day can’t end there. That’s what terraces are for: choose your spot for a shared drink with friends or family. Are we going to do it again tomorrow?

Booster: 1 minute by bike or 7 minutes on foot, that’s all the time you need between the beach and the disc-golf course. Super convenient for mixing activities while staying on site. It’s a great way to spend energy and reduce your carbon footprint!

Happy family hours

The quiet time at the start of the afternoon has re-energized everyone, and snack time has been taken… if the 6-8pm tunnel is a daily dread for parents, here in Mimizan, we play it cool and enjoy the day to the end. With children and teenagers, we get everyone back outside for a sports session. The skate-park is the place to be for mini-riders, fans of scooters or bikes “over bumps, Mum! Helmets on, they take great pleasure in negotiating curves and modules… even small falls are part of the game. Take a break from watching the basketball players on the adjoining court, and they’re off again! For teenagers who are already more expert, head for the pump-track site in Bias: mountain bikes or BMX take to the start of this track with its perfect bumps and curves to create some great sensations. Another option: padel at the Mimizan tennis club. It’s said that the first player to lob his opponent wins!

Once you’ve had a good workout, it’s time to chill out in some choice spots. In maxi tribe mode, head for the beach huts to share a moment facing the ocean: it’s so easy to sit back and watch the sun go down, while the kids are off living their best life with their feet in the sand. Installed only in fine weather, so as not to damage the dunes, they’re a haven for good friends… but why not grab a few tapas to extend the moment? Finally, if your baby is still too small for solo sandcastles, why not take a stroll along the flowery promenade beside Lac d’Aureilhan? Accessible by stroller, you can stroll along admiring the plant life that flourishes here, before enjoying a quiet drink on the beautiful wooden terrace of theAu Bon Coin du Lac hotel. So, aren’t these hours even happier with the whole family?

Booster: In Mimizan, trust in the “Mimiz’ô” family quality label, which guarantees good deals and a warm welcome for families. To date, over X professionals have signed up to the label.

Flower power

Early morning brings the first rays of sunshine, and the softness of this spring awakening invites you to join us for a rejuvenating stroll along the shores of Lac d’Aureilhan. A shot of vitamin D in a lovely setting as you stroll along the Promenade fleurie. 400 species of flowers and shrubs make up this 45-minute stroll (or more, if you feel like it!). The walk begins at a small footbridge, the passport to a fragrant and colorful journey through hydrangeas, dahlias and Indian lilacs. You can also observethe aquatic plants among which the birds frolic. Egrets, herons and ducks have all taken up residence here. A little further on, a small square invites you to relax and enjoy the panoramic view over the entire pond. On the way back, children can take a walk through the scent tunnel and discover a collection of different fragrant plants. The botanical escapade continues at the Benico farm: Lila, Benjamin, Nicolas and Laëtitia are organic farmers, practicing market gardening that respects nature and the seasons. Between spring and summer, you’ll be delighted by the colors their stalls gradually take on: red tomatoes, yellow peppers, green zucchini… a palette full of pep, the first step towards equally vibrant tastings. You can fill your basket with the finest fruits and vegetables at the Mimizan-Bourg market, or dine at one of the local restaurants supplied by Benico. When the chef’s talent enhances all the flavours of the produce…., you’ll want more!

Booster: Our 4-legged friends are welcome around Lac d’Aureilhan, provided they are kept on a leash. For the well-being and safety of all, bipeds as well as quadrupeds, furry as well as feathered animals, we respect the rules!

Current version The big blue

A first dive is first and foremost a question of atmosphere… or rather of conditions. The Mimizan diving club is offering 5 dates in July and August to provide the best possible conditions for first dives. You’ll need to take into account both the tide and weather calendars to dive with the best visibility in the heart of this ever-changing site.

The baptism begins with a period of equipment preparation: wetsuit, stabilizing vest, regulator and magnifying mask are essential. A few steps to the water and your instructor is already guiding you gently, at your own pace, beneath the surface. 3.50 meters later, you’re in another world. Marine biodiversity takes pride of place here, with species patiently catalogued by dive club volunteers: sole, red mullet, mussels, cockles and even syngnathids, a member of the seahorse family… For the latter, keep your eyes peeled, as they look an awful lot like seaweed! After 15 minutes, the instructor signals that it’s time to go back up. Quietly, you return to the surface and the sun shines on your eyes, still wide from the spectacle of the seabed. Each baptized diver leaves with a diving diploma… and a crazy desire to go back!

Booster: Too good! Charlène, one of the club’s volunteers and a Level 1 diver, was chosen to carry the Olympic flame. Among the criteria that counted: her sporting activities, her commitment to the club and her participation in the creation of a book listing the Courant’s biodiversity, entitled “Les Explorateurs du Courant de Mimizan”, available from the Mimizan media library.
